Jack o’ Frost • Queer QuestTV
Readers may well not care that I have watched an unhealthy dose of so-called BL series shows, but this “movie” came across my YouTube feed, hailing from Japan. It tells the story of Ritsu and Fumiya. Both the story, the acting, and the sentiment of this series stayed with me. It was originally released in 2023.
Spoilers ahead if you haven’t watched it.
As far a story goes, it opens with Ritsu’s brother and his friend, and as we learn, roommate, Fumiya, encountering him at the hospital after a concussion diagnosis. However going back to his apartment, it’s clear that something is not right between them. Fumiya acts as a responsible, caring roommate. But in time he realizes that a concussion isn’t the only apt diagnosis: Ritsu is also experiencing amnesia.
Of course amnesia is a convenient plot device for writers, probably more popular in fiction that it is in real life. In this case, the secret was their relationship, which had just hiccuped on the day of Ritsu’s accident.
The two find themselves again and I found myself unable to watch it in one sitting. The emotions for me got the best of me.
Fumiya is played by Kosuke Suzuki who had a stunning presence in this production. Kyoya Honda plays Ritsu, also a decent actor, but his fictional brother, played by Shoot Mori, out-classed him in the looks department.
The storyline for me made this interesting; the actors’s talents pushed it beyond the production value of many of the Thai series I watch.
FWIW, Ritsu’s character is an artist who draws; through both his past life and in living in amnesia, he draws a mythical character, a so-called “Jack o’Frost” which aligns with frost on their favorite restaurant window and the theme of his mind has the potential for recovery.
If you’re finding this from an online search, I recommend it.
